Eric Brust

Eric P. Brust, EA, MAAA - CEO, Actuary

Mr. Brust is an Enrolled Actuary, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries. He has over ten years experience consulting with public, private and not for profit employers on pension, post-retirement medical/life and other employee benefits issues.  Prior to joining Matthews Benefit Group, he worked as an actuary for a major New York based actuarial consulting firm. Mr. Brust received a bachelor's degree from Polytechnic University in New York.

Martin Burke

Martin J. Burke, III, Esq., CFO, Compliance Consultant 

Mr. Burke is a key member of our client consulting team. With his legal experience and understanding of ERISA law, he is involved in the development of custom-tailored retirement plans designed to meet specific goals for business owners. Mr. Burke is a graduate of Lycoming College, Pennsylvania and the University of Maryland School of Law.

 

Kathleen Matthews - President, Senior Consultant

Ms. Matthews is a graduate of the University of Maryland and is a recognized expert in the design and administration of retirement plans for small to mid-sized employers. She is responsible for the administrative operation of Matthews Benefit Group, which is known for its high quality of client service. Her staff's efforts have resulted in more than 97% client retention, exceeding industry standards. Ms. Matthews is the co-author of the Pension Answer Book - Forms and Worksheets and is a frequent speaker at financial service seminars.

Gregory E. Matthews, CPA - Exec. Chairman, Senior Consultant

Mr. Matthews is a graduate of the University of Tampa and completed his accounting studies at Strayer University in Washington, D.C.  He is a nationally recognized expert on the design and administration of pension, 401(k), ESOP, and payroll taxation. Mr. Matthews is the creator and author of a monthly employee benefits newsletter for Panel Publishers, 401(k) Advisor, and author of the Payroll Answer Book for Panel Publishers. He is also a member of the Florida and American Institutes of Certified Public Accountants.

W. Leon Smith

W. Leon Smith, EA, FSA - Vice President, Consulting Actuary

Mr. Smith has a broad base of experience consulting with public and private employers on pension and other employee benefits issues. He is a recognized expert in structuring retirement programs during business transactions (mergers, acquisitions and spin-offs) involving U.S. and international entities. He was formerly the Principal-in-Charge of the actuarial and employee benefits practice of a "Big Four" accounting and consulting firm. Leon is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA.
